NASHVILLE BAND GREAT PEACOCK HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATION!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The most popular band in Music City, Great Peacock, is set to release their highly-anticipated and critically-acclaimed third album, Forever Worse Better, in the midst of troubling new revelations.

Multiple anonymous sources have corroborated allegations that the band is, in fact, not “Americana” — but actually a rock band masquerading under the genre’s generously broad umbrella since roughly 2013.

“The cowboy hats really had me fooled all these years,” one source noted. “The boots, all that denim — the chainmail of Americana — and that damned poncho! What else was I supposed to think? These guys are practically slapping me across the face with Americana.”

Blount?!” another source exclaimed in reference to guitarist/vocalist/poncho mogul Blount Floyd. “Is that even his real name? Come on.”

No two sources were able to agree on or clearly define “Americana” as a musical genre, while sources made near-unanimous comparisons to Tom Petty.

At press time, the band’s single “All I Ever Do” mysteriously sits at #25 on the Americana Radio Singles Chart, with the album sitting at #42 on the Albums Chart. It’s not only been OVER praised by Paste Magazine, Rolling Stone Country (how does this even make sense??), PopMatters, Americana Highways (Fake News!), American Songwriter (has anyone actually checked their papers? Their Canadian tuxedos could be a clue to citizenship!), and Billboard...but they obviously paid to be on all of those Apple Music and Spotify playlists.

Some legendary musicians have also broken their long-held media silence on the new album (due out October 9th):

Neal Young lamented, “I didn’t think they could top that cover of ‘Cortez the Killer’ but they seem to have managed just that. Forever Worse Better is possibly the greatest rock album I’ve ever heard.”

Jim Ladderdale also issued a statement, saying “Let it be known that The King of Americana has spoken: this album made me burn all of my Nudie suits.”

Even Jason Isbull piled on, calling the album “the sonic equivalent of being trampled by 30-50 feral hogs. In a good way.”

Maybe it’s this sort of praise that has confused the masses. Or maybe they’ve pulled off the biggest bait and switch in American(a) history.

The band is currently in custody of the Americana Music Task Force awaiting trial. You can help contribute to their bail fund by pre-ordering the new album. Send your receipt and address to Great Peacock's publicity team (Sweetheartpub@gmail.com) and they will send you this commemorative poster.

Hopefully, they’ll be released before their album hits streaming services — TONIGHT at MIDNIGHT!
